Disney Musical Program at GALA

In January, GALA held auditions for its inaugural Disney Musical program. We wanted to bring this program to GALA because our students deserve exposure to the musical arts and an outlet to express their creativity in a way not seen in a typical school day. To the shock of our team, we had 68 students try out. WOW! What an amazing sight it was to see our scholars come together and engage in the celebration of the arts. Like our great friend Pooh said, “We didn’t realize we were making memories. We just knew we were having fun!” Even in the face of a global pandemic, GALA students continue to show up with that same excitement they had back in January.

One of the reasons we want to offer the Disney Musical program at GALA is because of its opportunity for sustainability. This is important because research would suggest that by participating in theatre, students learn creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Our students are more than academics, they are the HUNNY to our jars!

In pre-pandemic times, ticket sales, concessions and program advertisements would’ve funded the cost of this year’s performance and created future funds for GALA’s theater program. Our goal was to raise $5,000 and we still believe we can reach that goal with your help. Here’s how you can support our students’ future in theater at GALA….

VIP Viewing: Begins Thursday, May 7th at 4pm, donate $20 (or more!) to watch the cast’s short musical performance before it is available to others, and get access to a brief, behind the scene video, of cast rehearsals. The video will be shared to you shortly after your donation.

General Admission Viewing:  Suggested donation of $10 per family the video will be shared to you Saturday, May 9th at 6pm. In understanding that our supporters are staring down an unprecedented global pandemic,  any contribution will allow access.

UPDATE: May 20, 2020

Dear GALA’s Families and Community,

On behalf of the Disney Crew and Staff, I want to take this opportunity to THANK-YOU for making the Disney Winnie the Pooh Musical Jr. play a success! We had over 50 families and community members watch our talented actors perform a virtual version of Winnie the Pooh. Because of YOUR GENEROSITY we were able to raise over $2,000 in donations and for that we are forever grateful! Every dollar and cent, every post and share, and every view that took place 05/08 Friday – 05/13  Wednesday MATTERED! As of today, donations are still rolling in from some amazing supporters just like you! Our plan is to add up the numbers very soon and announce the Grand total on Memorial Day Monday, May 25, 2020. In addition to the Grand total, we also plan to give a summary of how the funds were distributed.
